In this Letter to the Editor we describe a case series of patients with orbital inflammatory disease mainly involving the orbital apex. We show that the disease course is worse and patients should be treated more aggressively.
In this paper we also demonstrate that it is possible that a complicated disease course can cause severe complications. The tremendous pain that these patients can suffer from proves very difficult to treat as well and seems to improve with decongestion of the orbital apex in combination with strong analgesics. Because of the great patient and doctors delay upon presenting to a specialised orbital service that we found in this series, it has become an interesting topic for every ophthalmologist to read and make themselves aware of.
